PRESS RELEASE - PAICV DA BRAVA REGIONAL POLITICAL COMMISSION

On the eve of the approval of the municipal budget for 2024, we received information from the municipal executive of Brava that he intends to extend the Municipality's loan beyond the amount of 120,000,000$00 (one hundred and twenty million escudos), already made last year.

It is, therefore, the intention of the Municipal Chamber to increase this value by another 50,000,000$00 (fifty million escudos). And having analyzed the terms and motivations that justify it, we became quite concerned.

It should be remembered that in the third quarter a loan was actually made that initially restructured six other previous loans, never used for works of municipal interest (but essentially for consumption) which amounted to around 82,000,000.00 (eighty-two million shields).

Of this extremely high amount lent, for the reality of Brava's comradeship, 22,000,000.00 (twenty-two million escudos) were used only to cover expenses and cover serious management errors, such as the payment of fines received and liabilities with the INPS that never were complied with, to the detriment of employees.

And worse, and even more serious, with a total omission in the justification of around 18,000,000.00 (eighteen million escudos) still not shown where they ended up. The PAICV bench at the Municipal Assembly is trying to determine his whereabouts.

And yet, as if that were not enough, the suspicions and the sad possibility of being faced with a management that may have signs of influence peddling and corruption for the use of public money so that the Mayor of the City Council and his compadre, owner of the construction company “Ideal Construções” benefit from public money (to be duly determined) to whom he paid, of the total amount loaned, and already mentioned, almost 13,000,000.00 (thirteen million escudos) . Without ever having made any competition, and without ever having provided any deposit as required by law.

And the problems with the management of the Municipality of Brava do not stop there, and it should be noted that there are clear signs of harmful management, with the Municipality asking well-identified third parties to carry out activities at the municipality's festivals and in addition to being chosen Without a competition, the Municipality itself bears all the costs, including travel and food for all the artists, security costs and all activities, for the exclusive benefit of these organizers and to the detriment of the public treasury. The Edil da Brava is unable to explain why he opted for this disastrous solution for the festivities, wasting public money.

Brava is today a municipality that allows almost 2,000,000.00 (two million escudos) to accumulate in deductions that it does not provide to employees to guarantee social security. But where did this money deducted monthly from employees' salaries go?

Brava is today an ungoverned municipality, where there are no ideas, no direction with this council management that runs the municipality illegally.

This commission, not satisfied with the state of affairs, is therefore, once again, denouncing what it considers to be clear signs of crimes, asking the authorities to intervene to investigate.

Brava urgently needs change
